MAIATO CELEBRATES HIS FIRST FEATURE WIN

It was a beautiful night at Barrie Speedway in front of a packed crowd for OLG Slots at Georgian Downs night, as the Rama Moccasin and Smoke Late-Model's returned to action with Gord Shepherd holding a slight lead over Dwayne baker in the overall points lead.  Shepherd would add to his lead with a heat win, followed up by his third feature of the season as he would win the 25 lap Late-Model event.

The Barrie Mitsubishi Pure-Stock class was up next and was once again dominated by points leader Ben Melenhorst.  Holding a 24 point lead coming into Saturday night, the Stayner native went three for three, winning both of his heats and the Pure-Stock feature.

Darryl St. Onge had a 21 point lead in the OLG Slots Thunder Car division, winning two of three events so far this season.  The only other driver to record a feature win this year is Dave Doucette, who was once again victorious on Saturday night.  The veteran driver will surely see his point total rise, after starting the night in 14th place.

In the 35 lap Late-Model feature a trio of Barrie newcomers; Eddie Bowlby, Keith Maiato and Steven Mathews, were all running out in front, with Barrie veterans Keith McLeod, Gord Shepherd and Dwayne Baker all stuck in the middle of the pack in the 19 car field.  Baker would make a move to get inside the top three, but the night belonged to Keith Maiato who recorded his first ever feature win.

Woolsey Puts on Masterful Performance in Winning First High Line Feature

The OSCAAR Super Late Models returned to Barrie Speedway after a one-year absence on June 13, with TJ Woolsey of Cambridge coming home the winner in the 50-lap feature event.  The win for Woolsey was his first in the series since 2006, where the driver would capture the prestigious 75 lap Biederman Memorial.  Pole sitter #40p Charlie Gallant would jump out to the initial lead after gaining the advantage on #40 Rudy Oppersma from the drop of the green.  Woolsey, starting from 3rd on the grid, was quick to follow Gallant through under Oppersma, as former Barrie competitor #83 Ian Bourque checked into third early on....To read Dave Vokey's complete race report click here.

SPECTACULAR AERIAL VIEW OF BARRIE SPEEDWAY

This absolutely stunning shot of Barrie Speedway was taken during the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event on September 8th, 2007.

Taken at dusk, the shot shows the Canadian Series drivers being led by the pace car down the front straightaway. What really takes your breath away however is the absolute sea of cars, campers and haulers. It's amazing how far the track has come in just a few shorts years!
