CONGRATULATION'S TO BARRIE SPEEDWAY'S 2009 CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to Gord Shepherd, Darryl St. Onge and Ben Melenhorst on their championship wins.

We’d also like to send out congratulations and thanks to all of the drivers and crews who raced at Barrie Speedway this year. The time, energy and money you invest in your cars is what makes the show at Barrie Speedway one of the best at any race track, anywhere. 2009 was a very frustrating season weather-wise, but as always, on the nights when it didn’t rain, the racing at Barrie Speedway was sensational. I would also like to thank all of the staff and officials for all of their hard work and dedication to the track.

On behalf of the drivers, crews, staff, and officials, a very special thank you to all of the fans who attended Barrie Speedway this year. You are the best fans a race track could hope for and without you, there would be no racing for all of us to enjoy. To show our appreciation, and to give you the opportunity to be part of all of the activities, we are inviting fans to join us at the year-end banquet this year. It’s something that’s never been done before, but a tradition that we’d like to start this year. Without the fans, there is no racing and without the dedicated drivers and crews, there would be no racing for the fans. So it’s only fitting that we all celebrate the season and racing at Barrie Speedway together.

We’re already working on our program for next season, which will be promise to be one of the best ever at Barrie Speedway. Look for some big announcements to be made at the banquet which takes place on October 30th at the Barrie Molson Centre.

Thank you all and here’s to sunshine in 2010!

THOMSON WINS THE TORBRAM ELECTRIC 300 PRESENTED BY THE SOURCE

In front of a capacity crowd, Don Thomson Jr. captured the checkered flag Saturday night at Barrie Speedway, his fifth career win and first of the season in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series action.  Thomson led for 106 of 300 laps and eventually re-claimed his lead on lap 18 and held off Mark Dilley for the win.  Scott Steckly finished in third, while Brad Graham and Jason Hathaway rounded out the top five.

In the OLG Slots at Georgian Downs Thunder Car division it was Jason Elliott capturing the 30 lap feature, the first win of the season for the number two driver in the points, and it's the first time all year someone other than Darryl St. Onge or Dave Doucette has claimed a Thunder Car victory.  Kyle Lethbridge won for the second straight time in Barrie Mitsubishi Pure-Stock action, his third victory of the season.  For Dave Vokey's complete race report click here.

SPECTACULAR AERIAL VIEW OF BARRIE SPEEDWAY

This absolutely stunning shot of Barrie Speedway was taken during the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event on September 8th, 2007.

Taken at dusk, the shot shows the Canadian Series drivers being led by the pace car down the front straightaway. What really takes your breath away however is the absolute sea of cars, campers and haulers. It's amazing how far the track has come in just a few shorts years!
